OVERVIEW:


Wasteworlds is an inclusive and accessible arts opportunity for people of all ages and abilities.

Fast Fashun and Snuff Puppets provide high quality arts experiences within safe, inclusive and accessible environments with professional staff and arts practitioners.

Fast Fashun and Snuff Puppets staff have undergone safety screening checks and hold Working with Children Check Cards.

Fast Fashun and Snuff Puppets conducts their practice and supervision professionally, respectfully and sensitively, meeting the diverse needs and abilities of all participants, working together with families, carers, services and community members to proactively assist young people and adults to access, participate and meaningfully engage in the arts.

VENUE INFORMATION:

- To get to the installation you will need to travel from the front gate approximately 300 metres to the installation. It is outdoors until you get to the installation. If it's raining you might want to bring a coat or umbrella

- The installation is inside a building with really high ceilings. There are windows on the roof. The space will be lit by daylight throughout the events

- The venue is a large space that is not temperature controlled. If it's a cold day, it might be cold inside. Bring a jumper or coat to keep you warm.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT WASTEWORLDS:

Wasteworlds is an interactive textile installation. There are three different kinds of events you can attend at Wasteworlds:

Kids workshops: these are for children aged 4-12, and their carer or guardian

Non-stop runway: this is an all-ages and abilities event

Recovery day: this is a low-sensory exhibition.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE INSTALLATION

- There will be tables and chairs

- There will be artists available to guide you through the space

- All events are relaxed, so you can come and go as you please

- There will be a house-like structure in the middle of the installation. It will be covered in old clothes. It is a large-scale puppet. It will inflate into a large creature with giant tentacles. The artists will warn everyone when this is about to happen

- You can touch the installation.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT WASTEWORLDS: KIDS WORKSHOPS

- There will be music playing

- There will be a host who speaks on the microphone

- The volume of the sound will be variable

- We will have ear plugs available at the ticket desk

- You will be invited to rummage through piles of clothing waste

- You will be invited to make a new outfit out of the clothing waste

- You can use scissors and safety pins

- You can style the clothes on your body or you can ask a friend or an artist if they will wear the clothes for you.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT WASTEWORLDS: NON-STOP RUNWAY

- You can participate in the activities or you can sit and watch

- There will be music playing

- There will be 8 artists roving around the space. You can ask them to help you if you need

- You will be invited to rummage through piles of clothing waste

- You will be invited to make a new outfit out of the clothing waste

- You can use scissors and safety pins

- You can use a sewing machine if you know how to

- You can style the clothes on your body or you can ask a friend or an artist if they will wear the clothes for you

- You can showcase what you have made by wearing it on the catwalk

- The catwalk will be in the middle of the space

- The catwalk will be happening throughout the event

- You can get on the catwalk at any time or you can choose not to

- You can sit and watch or listen to the catwalk

- There will be a poet doing a live audio description of the catwalk

- You can help with the audio description by speaking on the microphone and describing what you see.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT WASTEWORLDS: RECOVERY

- This is a low-sensory exhibition day

- There are no performances

- There are no interactive activities

- For the first two hours we ask that you wear mask

- For the last two hours you don't need to wear a mask

- There will be an artist and a support worker there. they can take you through a touch tour of the installation

- You can access an audio description via a QR code. you will need headphones and a device to do this

- There will be no music

- There will be the sound of the puppet being inflated with air. This is a steady whooshing sound. It is like white noise.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARRIVE:

- For the kids workshops and non-stop runway you will get your ticket scanned at the door

- For the low-sensory exhibition there will be no ticket scanning

- You can talk to an artist about access information

- You can enter the space or wait in the foyer until you're ready to go in

- You can explore the space at your own pace

- You can take a seat and watch other people interact with the space

- You can rummage through piles of clothing waste

- You can ask an artist what to do.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION:

There will be a pre-recorded audio description of the installation available via QR code. Please bring headphones and a device to listen.

At the non-stop runway event on Saturday 4 October, there will be a poet doing a live audio description for the entire event

OTHER ACCESS INFORMATION:

Venue is wheelchair accessible.

Access Support Workers are available at all times and will provide meet and greet services to and from the Convent main entry at 1 St Heliers St. They will be waiting at the entry 30 mins prior to each session.

Accessible bathrooms are available.

All workshops are relaxed events.

Break-out space available.

Pre-workshop access and/or tactile tour available 30 minutes prior to event commencement.

Auslan Interpreters available for specified workshops:
- Friday 3 October 10am
- Saturday 4 October 2pm.

75% visual content rating.

75% aural content rating

Registered assistance animals are welcome. Water and green space is near the venue.

Companions to companion card holders are welcome.

HEPA filters on site at all times.
